The Week’s Top Android, iOS, and Windows Apps

It's been a very long week and a half. IFA kicked off last week in Berlin, bringing with it about 15-20 miles of walking around trying to see all the weird and wonderful gadgets on show. Also all the phone cases and handbags that were there for some reason. But things are getting back to normal. Aside from the iPhone launch due next Tuesday, it's finally starting to quiet down. Until Christmas rolls around, anyway. Read More >>

The Note 8 just got announced, the iPhone 8 is just around the corner, and to top it off IFA is next week - a time when all the tech companies unveil random home appliances with the same fanfare as a flagship smartphone. Because people clearly care about having Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or whatever else on their washing machines. Personally I'd just like a cheap one that works, and doesn't need me to hit the door to get it going. Read More >>

It's cliche to moan about the weather, but where did Summer go? I know more than one person who's resorted to putting the heating on in recent weeks. I've had to put on slippers while I'm working because my feet are too cold. What gives? My bills are expensive enough without having to worry about all that. Read More >>

Well it certainly doesn't feel like summer right now, seeing as I have to keep leaving the house with an umbrella, but I still wouldn't want it some other way. Rain is rubbish, but it's a hell of a lot better than baking in my own bed while I sleep. Read More >>

Last weekend was San Diego Comic Con, which I'm always very conflicted about. Conflicted because all the good footage is exclusive to the show floor, and film companies then refuse to release it online. Why? Who knows, especially since it gets leaked in crappy quality anyway. Some say it's to make it more appealing for con-attendees, which I say is bullshit. There are a lot of reasons to go to SDCC (like the exclusive toys, and actually being inside panels), and exclusive footage is a very small part of that. Read More >>

It's always lovely when a bunch of health maladies hit at the same time. I'm currently tackling a cold, an angsty and swollen wisdom tooth, an oncoming cough, and the fact I want to sleep almost all the time. It's been a fun few days, to say the least. But perseverance is a classic British trait, so I soldier on. Plus it's not easy to find someone capable of covering my day job, so I can't really skive and spent a day in a semi-coma. Read More >>

July! Summer! Another month and a half until we get a government-mandated day off work! Remember the good old days when July was the end of school, and meant you had something to look forward to? What is there now? Expensive holiday costs, stupid weather, and kids finishing school and noising up the local area. At least there are summer blockbusters to enjoy, so it's not all bad, just see them before schools finish lest you find your midday screening of War for the Planet of the Apes filled with toddlers. Well the nice weather stopped almost as quickly as it started, but at least we don't have to sit in our own homes moaning about how hot it is - all while drowning in a pool of our own sweat. Instead we get to sit inside and moan about the rain, because we can never be happy about anything in this country. While you're all no doubt busy being miserable about something or other, make sure to check out these apps and see if they can lift your spirits. Read More >>

This week is absolutely killing me, and doing wonders for my productivity. And by that I mean my productivity is tanking. If only summer holidays were a thing for adults... Even though it's June and the schools haven't shut down yet. But, you know, someone has to earn money to pay the rent. Read More >>

It's June! And with June the weather has... worsened? Bit weird. It was bright and sunny last week, and I couldn't sleep without an open window ad a fan. This week I don't want to get out of bed because my flat feels like a fridge. Crazy how nature does that, but I'm certainly not complaining about being too hot when I'm trying to go to sleep. The weather is all nice and sunny at the moment, isn't that awful? Well not really, since it's nice enough to be able to get to places without being drenched in rain or blown away in a gale, but man are the bugs out in force. It's nasty, and they keep trying to move into my house without offering to pay rent. If I have to pay rent, you can be sure those random mayfly-looking things aren't getting away with their freeloading. Read More >>

There's all this talk about bank holidays recently, which is unsurprising. We've just had three in as many weeks, with a fourth arriving at the end of the month, and the Labour Party promising us another four if they win the general election. Three of which will take place during the March/April period. Why then, though? Why should Spring be stuffed with bank holidays? Wouldn't it make more sense to have at least one every month before we start double dipping? Read More >>

Here is the place where I usually write some sort of introduction - often based on something that's happening out in the big bad world. Today, however, nothing is really coming to mind so I'll skip the pleasantries and jump right to it. Here are all your lovely apps for this week. Read More >>
