The Next Surface Laptop Might Have a Powerful Surprise

German website Winfuture is claiming that the next generation of Surface Laptop could be using AMD processors instead of the Intel CPUs found in every other Surface device. If true that’d be a big boon for AMD and a bit of an embarrassment for Intel. Read More >>

I’m a Designer—Here’s What I Think of the Surface Studio 2

The Surface Studio 2 isn’t supposed to just be Microsoft’s answer to the iMac or an alternative to a gaming desktop. It’s a machine built for designers, animators, artists, and other people who spend most of their day hunched over a giant display with a stylus in their hand, which is what I do as a creative producer here at Gizmodo. I edit videos, which means I need a good amount of power, but I’m also animating and designing a lot of the graphics you see on videos across all of Gizmodo Media’s properties. So the Surface Studio 2, which is supposed to mix power with an attractive and functional design, is supposed to be perfect for people like me, and in many ways, it delivers on that promise. Building The Surface Book: The Very Best Of Microsoft

At one point during the development process of Microsoft’s laptop-tablet hybrid Surface Book, engineers within the design team at the company’s Redmond offices were 3D printing new chassis structures daily — making changes to their designs throughout the day, setting the fast-prototyping machines to work overnight, and then repeating the same process the next day. For a company best known for the slow and iterative progress of Windows and Office, this is something distinctly different. And the hardware that it has created is something special. Read More >>

The World Finally Admits Microsoft Surface is the Shit

“It’s a machine out of its time, in a way. And a lot of us aren’t quite ready for it yet.” Those were our final thoughts on the Microsoft’s Surface Pro way back in early 2013; an impressive machine, but one that was too much future at the time. Well, the future is now, apparently. Read More >>

Microsoft Surface 3 Review: The Tablet I Want at the Price I Don’t

I’m dancing on the grave of Microsoft’s original Surface tablet, and I feel no remorse. It’s hard to feel sad; it was a beautifully crafted ten-inch tablet that ran a crippled version of Windows. It was awful. Now it’s dead, and I’ve got a way better tablet. I’m so happy. Read More >>

Surface 2 Review: One Step Forward, Two Steps Behind

The Surface RT was Microsoft's brassy if ultimately flawed to drop a cannonball in the placid, iPad and Kindle-dominated tablet pool. It didn't quite work out. With the Surface 2, Microsoft is taking the opportunity to say "No guys, but really," with a blistering, scary sort of confidence. Read More >>
